Support your local Mom and Pop
My friends and family know how much I care about supporting your local hardware store, lawn mower repair shop, and hair stylist. From a young age my Dad educated my siblings and I about shopping at your local farmers market, small engine repair in the back of some old retired guys garage, and being aware of exactly where you are spending your money. I can remember Fred Meyers on Greenwood going on strike and not being able to shop there. The BonMarche too. I can also remember being confused as to why we couldn't go in there and my friends couldn't understand why either.
Many years of Dad taking his time to explain to us why it is so important to support your neighbors has come full circle for me.
I used to work for local Mom and Pop appliance store. All of my neighbors, and I mean all of them used to shop there and still do. My parents did as well. I can still call any three of my babysitters and they can tell you how many years they have shopped at Albert Lee Appliance. Many of my former neighbors have passed on, but they would tell me all the time how they only shop there and not a big box store. Maybe my Dad educated them too a little bit. ;-)
When you shop at a locally owned store you are supporting a dream, helping someone put food on their table and generally all around making your community a better place.
