FAQ's
Pinterest is an addiction! In a good way it has stopped me from turning on the morning news and starting my day off on a depressed note. This morning I clicked on a link for top ten subjects to blog about. Done! So here we are. Frequently Asked Questions...
FAQ's from my guests..Let's list a few
1) How much should I exfoliate? I do it every day, is that okay?
Exfoliating should be done twice a week, and not every day. As you exfoliate you are sloughing off dead skin cells which helps reveal fresher and brighter skin. This is essential for diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, breakouts, dull texture, and makes your skin happy. Exfoliating every day takes away the essential oils your skin needs as a barrier function. It may feel as if you are doing your skin a favor but you are actually causing harm. PS - put down the St Ives Apricot Scrub. :-)
2) I don't wash my face every day or night. Why should I? I don't wear make up.
As you go about your day, your skin is collecting free radicals, grime, germs, your kids hands have been touching your face, you have been in close contact with others, perspiration, make up and so on. At the end of the day before bed you are doing your face AND neck a favor by removing the days collection of dirt. This is the best piece of advice I can give anyone on how to be good to your skin.
3) I use Neutrogena, even my dermatologist told me to. It's very drying, should I keep using it along with my Oil of Olay?
Well, I am not here to make anyone feel bad about what they are using at home, but this one always surprises me. Granted, these huge corporations have the marketing budget to use Jennifer Aniston (aveeno) Hellen Mirren (loreal) Kristen Bell (neutrogena) but let's break it down and be real. They are not using a drug store moisturizer or cleanser. Why? These products are pumped full of fragrance, preservatives (yes, which have to be there) but most are probably the same ingredient in a twinkie.
Neutrogena disturbs me because it is a detergent. Plain and simple. Technology, when it comes to products of any kind have come a long ways since the 80's. The peptides and nutrients are there for a reason. Ask your esthetician what is good for your skin. A cleanser and moisturizer should be doing you a favor, not stripping your skin down so you feel like Skeletor or Cruella de Ville.
4) Why do I need a serum, night cream, or under eye boost, nothing is going to help me at this point...
You may not need all three or even any of these, but you do need quality cleanser and moisturizer. Your night time routine will set the tone for your beauty sleep. Yes, beauty sleep. Its a real thing. A serum will give you the moisture you need while sleeping. As we age our collagen, elastin, and hydration in our skin is diminishing quicker than the Seattle Mariners making it to the playoff's. Let's slow down the signs of losing what makes our skin plump and hydrated.
A night cream or mask for your whole face will do its best job while you are sleeping. Again, beauty sleep. (a serum you can apply to the areas you feel lack moisture etc)
Under eye serums are a daily/nightly staple for me. I look just like my Dad. We both have dark deep blue tones under our eyes and I have always been a little dry. My daily eye brightening cream helps me look awake and not like I was in a boxing ring with Sugar Ray Leonard.
5) Why get a facial? Why spend a few dollars on a good product?
Our skin is our largest organ, take care of it and it will take care of you.
