Esthetic Community

Yesterday I attended an event put on by my product representative over at The Lynnwood Convention Ctr.  My good girlfriend and I met up before and had coffee.   My friend, J lives pretty far north of me, but we usually make time once a month to visit each other's business to either trade services or get a coffee and brainstorm.  This is the best and most inspiring relationship I've had lately with another woman.  Not to say my relationships with my close girlfriends isn't.  J and I inspire and reach out within ourselves to step out of the box, even if it's scary to try something new.  We never know if it will be the key which unlocks the secret to acquiring more business.  It feels amazing to sit with J and come up with new fun ideas or even work our way through an issue with our business.  Owning a small business doesn't come with a manual, especially an esthetics business.

We sat next to a lovely gal who drove quite a far distance to attend the class.  This gal openly admitted she was quite scared to be opening her own place with ZERO confidence.  I know this feeling well.  I still struggle with it.  She had asked a few questions about which software to use for a scheduling site.  Let me tell you - the whole room piped up.  It was wonderful to see everyone call out the name of the site they use to this woman and be more than happy to give her some help.  She quickly grabbed her pen and wrote down a few things.  I leaned over and gave her the name of my booking site as well.  I then reached over and gave her my card.  Now, I am in no way a savant when it comes to being a small business owner, but I already have a few small anchors in my repertoire which keep me grounded, feeling good, and CONFIDENT.  As we chatted she let me know she was not confident with the product knowledge.  I again - know this feeling well.  I shared with her an anchoring piece to make her feel better, because as esty's - its what we do! We always want to make people feel better.  :-)

Many times I wished someone would have said to me the following:

Fake it till you make it, No one knows you are piecing this all together as you start out, Your confidence will shine through with knowledge of what you are using including the machinery, product, booking site etc...Get to know your space and every single detail about it, Love your space and be in love with your career - this will draw people to you.

I felt an out pouring of things I wanted to share with this woman because of my previous training with a lady who mentored me for a  year.  It was an amazing opportunity which I am eternally grateful for.

At the end of the day we as women should be lifting each other up and supporting our successes.  We should also be there to offer advice, listen, look them in the eye and let them know - hey sometimes we are faking it too, but no one knows!
